CFP "BSTS kick-off meeting" (Leuven, 27/06/2014)

The Belgian Science, Technology, and Society (BSTS) network is hosting a kick-off event at the Irish College in Leuven. The keynote presentations in the morning will host Andrew Webster (University of York) and Sally Wyatt (University of Maastricht).

A slot in the afternoon will include original and creative presentations of researchers engaged in STS. This is why the BSTS propose a specific format of presentation known as the 'pecha kucha'. The pecha kucha format implies that presenters put together a powerpoint presentation consisting of twenty slides in total. Slides may only contain pictures and images, not words or text. Presenters are given twenty seconds to present each slide.

The presentations will provide experiences and reflections on science, technology and society, given the context and typical STS approach at their institute/research centre. The idea is to present ongoing, recently completed or future research that might interest members of the BSTS network. The focus should be on current STS-related research interests as well as the added value of having a network like BSTS.

Questions in this context are:
- What are the strengths and weaknesses, as well as the opportunities and threats, for the way you perform STS-activities at your institution?
- What are challenges you face during your STS activities and how do you cope with them?
- How do you see the future of STS in Belgium?

Presenters are required to send their PowerPoint Presentation by 7 June 2014 to: pierre.delvenne(at)ulg.ac.be.
